F.A.Q

  • The board is manufactured from reconstituted (recycled) New Zealand plantation pine wood fibre, bonded together with moisture resistant (MR) resins and waxes.
  • The blended fibres are compressed under heat to form a structurally strong and moisture-resistant medium-density particleboard called "Superfine LB".
  • Boards are then passed through a series of high-speed drum sanders that finish the surfaces to its Superfine finish on each face. Our re-manufacturing plant then applies a paint application to seal the panel further.

  • Metra Construction Panels can be installed onto either a concrete or timber framed floor structure.
  • The Metra Construction Panel System must be designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the approved BRANZ appraisal.
  • It will meet the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) Clause B1 Structure – Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2 and B1.3.4. The Metra Construction Panel System meets the requirements for loads arising from self-weight, imposed gravity loads, earthquake, snow and wind i.e. B1.3.3(a), (b), (f), (g) and (h).
  • The Metra Construction Panel System also meets the 50-year durability requirement of the NZ Building Code (subject to conditions).

The Metra Construction Panels and System can be used for a 2.7m stud height, and a wall height of 3m can be achieved without additional engineering design.

  • Our panels are moisture resistant once coated with our specially formulated paint application. All cut or exposed edges are painted to give protection from water ingress.
  • BRANZ Appraised to cope with up to 28 days of weather exposure while roofing and cladding is completed. (Metra Panel recommends roofing to be completed within 14 days.)

Metra Construction Panel exterior walls can achieve a thermal insulation rating of R2.3 to R6.0.

  • As per the BRANZ Appraisal 364, 'Metra Wall, Floor and Ceiling panels will not present a health hazard to people'. Results of a formaldehyde monitoring investigation show that the air concentration of formaldehyde in a number of finished houses is below the WHO guideline for 'no concern', which is 0.05ppm.
  • If designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of the BRANZ Appraisal, the Metra Wall and Ceiling panels and connections will meet the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) Clause F2 Hazardous Building Materials - Performance F2.3.1.

  • The product cost is similar to traditional material, but there can be a large amount of time saved, which in turn saves on cost.
  • The panels are a large size, with a surface that offers the opportunity to gain a level 5 finish – reducing plastering/stopping costs.
  • Speed of build, putting up walls and ceiling and reduction of weather delays has broader cost advantages across the whole project.
  • 7.5% extra floor space translates into additional cost savings compared to a traditional build, or the ability to use the extra space.

Metra Walls can provide an STC rating from 28 to 61.

  • The Metra Construction Panel System can be used in up to and including Very High Wind Zone without specific engineering required.
  • Do not exceed 1.5kPa without specific engineered design.
